SEAL Memorial at Punchbowl

Welcome, Hugh Hewitt readers.

Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

(Robert Louis Stevenson - 'Requiem' from Underwoods)

The Blackhawks from 2-25 Aviation Regiment, 25th Infantry Division performed a missing man formation flyby during the memorial ceremony while the bagpipes played "Amazing Grace".

It was a fitting tribute to the men lost and a wonderful expression of the sentiment of those left behind.

The ceremony also included recognition of the members of 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment who were lost as well.

If thou didst ever hold me in thy heart
Absent thee from felicity awhile,
And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain,
To tell my story.

Shakespeare - Hamlet, Act V, Scene II

Send not to ask for whom

It was for me and thee.

And in them,
thee and me
still can live

A long time ago I had the privledge to be part of the JROTC honor guard at Easter sunrise services at Punchbowl. The singularly most moving event in my life.

May our brave and selfless warriors rest in the peace they so richly deserve.

As a Lieutenant in the 1/27th Infantry in the late 1970's, I had the Honor to be the OIC of many Funeral details at Punchbowl. Mostly for WW II Veterans. The Fireing Squad, Taps, folding and presenting of the American Flag in that setting are with me always. May my brethren in the Special Forces Rest in Peace. May we Honor them by finisihing the tasks they were about.

To that hallowed ground we entrust their bodies. To the Mansions of the Lord we entrust their spirits. May they there find Divine embrace and Eternal light.

Godspeed, gentlemen.
